MESOTECH 971 SONAR WITH MODIFIED SOFTWARE TO RECONGNIZE NITROGEN: The sonar has been used in conjunction with the Netherlands, Amhem Police Dept. water search dog teams [Leen Boer, Dog Team Leader ]. The combined technology of the single discipline watersearch dogs, in combination with the sonar technology utilizing direct sound path propagation [D.S.S.P.] has boosted the success rate of victim recovery aspects from  35-50% to the upper 80s%. The two technologies are incorporated by using the search dogs to confirm that a human biological target really does exist in the given search location. When the search dog has given his strongest reaction, the dog handler will drop a small buoy at the strongest reaction location. The sonabuoy is then placed a this point, floating on the surface and the area is scanned ~ from one position ~ covering approximately 2-5 football fields every 15-20 seconds.

   When a "target of interest" has been defined by the sonar operator, a diver [preferably one diver with support divers nearby] is placed into the water. The diver has had aluminum foil taped to his ankles and wrists and is requested to inflate his B.C. to maintain buoyancy. The diver can be seen in [real-time] by the sonar operator and is "steered" over the target, on the surface by the sonar operator and via hand or voice, instructed to make a vertical descent over the designated target. When the object has been identified [normally the victim or evidence on the first dive], he then marks the "object" with an inflatable buoy and requests support divers to conduct the recovery.
